The 1961 Fleer set consists of 154 cards that were issued in two series, with #1-#88 released in 1961, and #89-#154 released in 1962. At the time of release, the set wasn’t as popular amongst collectors. Topps dominated the baseball card market, and in order to not interfere with Topps player contracts, only retired players were featured in the 61 Fleer set. While this may have been the case in 1961, this set has continued to gain traction due its sheer number of vintage Hall of Famers and major stars. 1961 Fleer Baseball has nice eye-appeal, with the patriotic stars and pennant design. Common condition issues of this set include centering, which is accentuated by the 5 star design on either side of the card’s front, and corner/edge wear, which is more obvious on the back of the card. When it comes to collecting Hall of Famers from the vintage era, the 1961 Fleer set is a more affordable alternative than collecting vintage Topps.
